This song was written by Doreen Day at the request of her grandson. She attended a conference about the water in which the internationally known speaker, Dr. Masaru Emoto said, the very least we should do every day, is to speak to the water:

Cette chanson a été écrite par Doreen Day à la demande de son petit-fils.  Elle avait assisté à la conférence sur l'eau dans laquelle l'orateur international, Dr Masaru Emoto avait dit que le moins que nous puissions faire chaque jour, est de parler à l'eau :

Water, we love you.

So she did this. Every day on their drive to drop Mashkoonce (Little Elk) to school, they passed a body of water. And every day they said these words to the water as they drove by. They made games by saying it in different voices and then would say it as fast as they could. Then one day Mashkoonce, said, “Nokomis why can’t we say this in our language?” So, Dorene asked her daughter’s language teacher to write it in Ojibwemowin. Dorene had the words taped to the car visor as they learned the words.

Alors, elle l'a fait. Chaque jour sur la route en voiture pour l'école de Mashkoonce (Petit élan), ils passaient le long d'un plan d'eau. Et chaque jour, ils disaient ces mots à l'eau en roulant. Ils firent des jeux en chantant en différentes voix, et ensuite aussi vite qu'ils le pouvaient. Alors, un jour, Maskkoonce dit "Grand-Mère, pourquoi ne pas le dire dans notre langue?" Alors, Dorene demanda au professeur de langues de sa fille de l'écrire en Ojibwemowin. Dorene a fixé les mots au pare-brise de sa voiture pour qu'ils puissent apprendre le texte.

One day this grandson Mashkoonce said, “Nokomis why don’t we sing the words, don’t you think the water would like it to be sung?” So she thought about it and came up with the tune. They sang this song to the water every morning on their drive to school.

Un jour, le garçon, Mashkoonce dit "Grand-Mère, pourquoi ne chantons-nous pas les mots, tu ne crois pas que l'eau aimerait qu'on les chante?" Alors elle y pensa et revint avec la mélodie. Ils chantèrent alors ce chant à l'eau tous les matins en partant pour l'école.

It is sung like a lullaby and we don’t use shakers or drums.

Ce chant est chanté est comme une berceuse et ne s'accompagne ni de maracas ni de tambours.

Doreen and her grandson, Mashkoonce, give permission for everyone to share this song… sing it to the water every day.

Doreen et son petit-fils, Mashkoonce, ont donné leur autorisation à tous de partager ce chant ... chantez-le à l'eau tous les jours.
